The student who wishes to major in Computer Science will be admitted under one of the following categories: Standard, Direct, or Provisional Admission. The Admissions Office has more information about these Admissions Requirements . Other students are first admitted to University College and then must request a transfer into the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences, declaring their intent to major in Computer Science. If the student does not qualify for direct admission, then the student will be required to meet all Buchtel College requirements and have completed 3450:208, 3450:221, 3460:209, and 3460:210 with grades of at least a C in order to qualify for admission to the department.

When a student enters the College of Arts and Sciences, an appointment must be made with an advisor from the Department of Computer Science. At this appointment, the advisor will meet with the student to help with course registration and to sign a contract. In an area of concentration which changes as rapidly as Computer Science, the curriculum changes frequently. The contract will specify the course work required for a major in Computer Science as of the time the student enters the college. The listed requirements will not be changed if the student completes such work within a five year period. The contract is one way we ensure students are aware of any new requirements and upcoming changes to the program.
